Biography
The Beginning
Dead By You got started in the summer of 2006, when Jari and Jan-Peter met each other, and being old friends, ended up chating about music. It turned out that Jari wanted badly to have a singer for some riffs he’d been working out. He made it very clear to Jan-Peter, that he was the one who had the best voice for those riffs.
The boys knew each other from early 90’s when they had a band called 'Next Apostols'. After the break up, they met randomly until the moment to create something new came.
The Band
In the beginning there was no talk about forming a band, just relaxing and playing. As soon as songs started to develop, the ambition got higher. Along came Tapani Lehtonen to strengthen the sound. The trio played a few gigs, and because of the good feedback, came an idea of bringing a cello along. Tapani knew a cello player, Elias, got so excited about the music, that he decided to stay in the band. Four of them did some gigs and crowd loved what they saw and heard. The crowd realised what the band already knew, it worked. Later on, Juha Salonen joined the group, and everything started moving forwards.
Studio & The Record
Soon Dead By You was ready to go to a studio. Along with a friend's financial help, they began producing their first EP. The band didn't choose the cheapest studio for the recording, they wanted to have a nice environment and a talented recorder-mixer. The choice was Tommi Ahonen and his Studio Level 1One. The band worked and pushed themselfs nearly a week very hard and intensely. The result was an excellent proof of Dead By You’s talent to combine note, melody and rhythm.
The EP is for sale in two local music shops, so the fans can order it there, without approaching the band.
2008
Dead By You has two main goals for year 2008. To assure a professional promotor with their talent and to have as many gigs as possible, and to become a well known band through all this. And secondly, to have a record deal in which they can make an album with good marketing.
Changes
After releasing their debut EP December 1st 2007, Tapani Lehtonen took a vacation of the music making and decided to be on his girlfriend's side, as they’re having a child in January. Ilari Heinäaho (from a well known band in Finland, Private Line) took over the guitarist role in the band. Because of the hurry at his day job, Juha Salonen, being a professional musician, no longer had the time for the band. For this reason, the band got a new talented drummer, Mikko Hänninen.
The Name
The name 'Dead By You' came from Jan-Peter’s slightly gothic-romantic idea, ”Love is a powerful thing that sometimes kills”. The band calls their music 'Black acoustic rock', which is more of a state of mind than a musical description.
The Spirit
Dead By You is a very creative and innovative band. Many new songs are written and some of them stay in the song book for now, awaiting for their time to come. The trust for the songs and the melodies is strong.
Dead By You is keen to discuss possible cooperations with interesting people in the music business, and to take forward a band called Dead By You.
