Biography
2004
In April 2004, the three partners in crime, Tomy Laisto, Joni Suodenjärvi and Tuomas Vähämaa found themselves in a situation, where cooperation with fourth member of their previous band started to be almost impossible. It was time to create something new, something that was to become the band we know today as Hateform.
Soon after, Petri Nyström was auditioned to handle the vocals. Petri was recruited to the band on the spot, as the aggression and integrity of he's performance proved him as the first and last candidate for this job. To complete the existing line-up, another guitar player was yet to be found.
Hateform played their first gig on June 11th 2004. On that gig, we were forced to use our sound engineer Heikki Kaplas as a session musician to share the guitar duties with Tomy. Since Heikki was just a replacement, the band decided not to do any more gigs until they would find a suitable guitar player for the job.
From June to September we had a few guys trying out but something just didn't match. Somewhere in July, Insomnium guitarist, Ville Vänni announced his interest to fulfil the place of the second guitarist. September he joined to band as a full member of Hateform.
Nerve wrecking rehearsing continued with Ville, since Hateform was scheduled to participate in Deathkampen 2-minitour in Finland. After the tour, we had time to settle down, focus on future gigs and prepare ourselves for studio sessions.
2005
was the year to showcase Hateforms first studio effort, which was scheduled to take place in February 25th to 27th at Fantom studio. In addition to playing live in various places in Finland, the rest of 2005 was devoted to send our release worldwide to various labels, zines, and radio stations and gig organizators. The self-titled demo/promo achieved positive reactions in the media and some smaller record companies presented their interest in our potential.
2006
The beginning of the year 2006, the band encountered a minor line-up change as guitarist Ville Vänni, told us that he was unable to continue playing in Hateform. His medical studies and other band Insomnium were the main reasons why our ways had to part. Ville promised to play, if necessary, all the scheduled gigs until June 2006 in case a new guitarist wasn't hired by then.
Fortunately, a new guitar player was in sight sooner as we could expect. Tomy knew this amazing player, Tom Gardiner, from the bands Murdread and Scorched Earth Tactics. He came to Jyväskylä to see Hateform live and to discuss the situation with the rest of the band. He told Tomy that his part in both of those bands was at the end of the road so it would be great to have a chance to play in the same band with us.
We decided to give him a shot, and only a week after the first meeting in Jyväskylä, Tom was on his way for his first rehearsal with Hateform. We decided that Tom would replace Ville as soon as possible, since we had quite many gigs booked already. Once again we locked ourselves in our rehearsing place and started training with Tom. Our schedule was nothing less than hectic.
Living proof of Hateform's potential is that with only two weekends of rehearsing the new Hateform line-up entered the Spine band contest, and scored the second position. As a reward, Hateform was booked to play at Scooprock 2006, indoor metal festival in Mikkeli. We played together gig after gig and people's reaction towards the new line-up was amazing. Hateform established them as a solid machinery of ass kicking, sharing the stage with some of the top bands in Finland.
Meanwhile, Hateform returned to Fantom studio in September to record their second promo cd, Retaliate. To support our latest achievement, Hateform will be playing live as much as possible from Autumn 2006 onward.
2007
Once again, we had a huge job ahead of us when it was time to start spreading our latest release Retaliate to Finnish and international media. So far Hateform has been awarded with "Demo of the month"-titles in Imperiumi, which is Finland's biggest metal website and in Soundi and Inferno magazines, two perhaps biggest monthly released music magazines in Finland. We have received good feedback from our latest release so far and now we keep our fingers crossed and hope that next step in Hateform's journey would be finding a way to release our first full-length album, with or without help of record labels. New material is also coming with full speed and we can't hardly wait to get back to live stages.
