Karelian Warcry

Biography

Anything connected to Karelia points towards the tempestuous past of Finland, to struggle, endurance, pain and heroism. Bands in Finnish metal often happen to have connections with this territory and its meanings. KARELIAN WARCRY obviously falls into this category.

As the band states, "Karelian Warcry represents respect for ancestors, their sacrifices and all what they have done for us. Karelian Warcry supports anti-christianity", thus being in the theme universe of black metal. Its music, however, is a mixture of black and death metal, in a thrilling, briliant Finnish manner.

According to the band's biography, the KARELIAN WARCRY foundation year was 2002.

"A Drunken idea about a band wasn't bad at all and one thing led to another. Sami Ukkonen (bass) and Urgh (guitars&vocals) were responsible for the musical and lyrical stuff together. Grontti started to mutilate drums. They all had similar and clear visions of what they wanted of the band. Musically the early days were Black Metal with a taste of folk in it.
RM joined the band in april 2003. He was the best person to take care of the lead guitars. This way Urgh could concentrate more on the vocals.
Sami quit KW february -04. He gave an official announcement 10.2.2004. Style changed after that a bit. Music started to get influences from other genres, mostly from Death Metal. There wasn't anything dramatic between the bandmates at that time. Piispa, who had played with these guys earlier, took over the bass.
