Biography
Booze, bikes and broads.
RoadKill was formed in Kokkola, Finland in the fall of ’07 by Niklas “Nicky” Lento and Janne Marttila with two other guys looking to play Hard-rock with emotion.
Lento and Marttila formed the band along with two other members. They started by covering classic Hard-rock songs, but started soon after to write their own material. In the summer of ’08 they played their first gig in a live-music pub in Kokkola and also decided to record their first EP. The EP was recorded in the fall of ’08. During the recording-sessions an inner conflict started and the band decided that the other guitarist and the drummer had to leave and concentrate on their other projects. The band hired immediately Patrick Passoja to play lead guitar. They played for a while with another drummer before hiring Antti Välimäki (f. Narmer, Toxic Mind).
The band plays music that mixes old and new styles, “biker”-riffs, thumping bass and ear-pounding drums. The major influences of the band are: Mötley Crüe, Skid Row, Motörhead, Guns n’ Roses among many others. This style of “biker”-music has its roots from when Lento and Passoja played in their high-school band Chaos Charm.
The bands EP: Lock‘n Load was released on November 28, 2008. The EP contains four tracks of the band’s own songs: Lock‘n Load, Dope Cowboys, Nasty Babes and a power ballad named: End of Love. The tracks were recorded at RRM-studio in Veteli, Finland. The title track was played on the radio before it was even mastered and has been played twice since that, before the record was even released. 1-minute clips of the four tracks were posted on the bands myspace-site and within the first thirty hours the title track had been listened to over 100 times, this without any “heavier” promotion. When the clips had been available for a week, the tracks had been played almost 600 times and counting.
