In early 1994, two young men from the woods of Rächals formed Wintermoon with the intent to create gloomy black metal that would channel their visions of winter, coldness and darkness.
First rehearsal demo that included five songs was recorded in january 1995, with Wanderer and Ragmar as the only two members. Azhemin joined Wintermoon later that year, and the release of "The Mightiest Stand Above" demo took place in the autumn of 1995.
In 1996 Azhemin was replaced by Korppi and at that time Wintermoon also dropped all keyboards from their music and focused on a more raw and organic sound.
The band rehearsed scrupulously and continued to write new songs on forthcoming album, that was planned to be released through Maggot prod./rec. (ita). But as other projects gained more attention, Wintermoon finally saw it's last daylight in the end of 1997.
However, in 2005 Korppi and Wanderer started re-writing some of the old stuff, with songs such as "In Silence Of Nightfall", "United Hunter" and "Night So Cryptic Is All Mine", and are planning on recording them properly in some point near future.
