Thaurorod Bassist "Pasi Tanskanen" Interviewed For MetalZone

The new CD of Finish band Thaurorod "Morning Lake" is getting on just in these days, recently the review on their second album "Tales of the End“ was released on our web pages and now you can read interview with Pasi Tanskanen, bass player of the band.

How did it all start? How did you get to the band?

Pasi: I'm one of the founder members.

Joonas "Jonde": One of the founders as well.

Emil "Emppu": I was in the same high school with Pasi and Joonas and one
day Joonas asked me to come to rehearsels and after that I was in the band.

Jani "Japi": I know Emppu because we are workmates and after their previous guitarist had left Emppu told me Thaurorod needed a guitar player and asked me to join.

Lumi: I noticed the band on the internet, saw they were looking for a singer, and wanted to try out. I phoned Pasi and we scheduled a meeting.

Emmi: Emppu asked me to join Thaurorod several times before I actually made the decision to join. Then finally at the end of 2005 I found the courage and I have to say that joining Thaurorod has been the best choice I have made this far.

Have you ever learned to play your music instrument in some music school? (learned to sing)

I think most of us have been having some kind of lessons on our instruments at some point, but not much really except Lumi who studies classical singing at a Conservatory in Finland.

How do you like your last CD?

I really think it sounds great, the songs are good and we all enjoy listening to it. It has been nice to receive a lot of positive feedback on `Tales of the End`.

Do you prepare in these days some new material?

Yeah, I have couple of songs almost done, and some ideas too, also Emil have something under work and Lumi has a few songs that still lack instrumental parts. So there's quite a lot of new material on its way.

When will be this new CD released?

`Morning Lake` should be released in the beginning of March, so within a couple of weeks. Hopefully there will be no delays.

Do you play gigs only in your native country, or do you play abroad too?

So far there have only been gigs here in Finland, but we are planning on going to Spain. We would exchange some 2-4 gigs with a Spanish band, they would play with us in Helsinki and we would go perform in Barcelona and Madrid with them. This project still needs a lot of planning but we really hope it can be done. It's hard to say about the timing, but hopefully during this year..

Which gig was your best and worst, where was it and why?

Well I think most of the band members liked our last gig at Semifinal in Helsinki best and I must say it was quite energetic and felt great. On the other hand when we were playing at the finals of Aani ja Vimma - band competition in Gloria, Helsinki, the audience was awesome. The whole place was full of people and it was absolutely fantastic to play in front of them.

Our worst gig must have been before this new line-up. There were couple of gigs in 2005 that really were not that great. I remember one gig where neither audience nor the band itself were able to hear the vocals from the PA-system and besides that there were maybe ten people who had come to see us.

What bands do you listen to and who is your music idol?

There are quite many good metal bands nowadays so we can't name them all but I think a band like Wintersun is one we all admire. One of Lumi's favourite bands of all time is Blind Guardian, with singer Hansi Kurch being one of his greatest heroes.

Do you want to say something to your fans?

As you might know `Morning Lake` is to be released soon so check our website for it, listen to the new songs and tell us what you think. We hope to see you all at our future gigs. A new voyage has begun.
