TARJA TURUNEN: "The Songs I'm Composing Now, When The Guitars Come In They Have To Blow Your Mind"

BW&BK scribe Carl Begai recently spoke with ex-NIGHTWISH vocalist Tarja Turunen about the success of her first solo album, My Winter Storm, and her upcoming all important second record. An excerpt is available below.

“Like in everything I thnk there are different things that you want to change or try out,” Turunen admits. “The biggest struggle on My Winter Storm was making people understand what I’m trying to do, like the people at the record company and others behind the project. It was recorded in different studios all over the world and I don’t want to go through that hassle ever again. There are going to be international musicians involved on the next album; musicians I already have and others that I would love to work with. The thing is, at home here in Finland I have a studio of my own so I have a place to sing my vocals. I don’t have to run around to a million different studios anymore, and now the band has the chance to record in one of two studios.”

“The other thing is, even though I’m very happy with My Winter Storm artistically – it was done as I wished – I wasn’t so happy with the sound of the guitars. The songs I’m composing now, when the guitars come in they have to blow your mind. That’s what I want for the next album.”

  2. Sounds good! Hopefully there will really be more guitars in it.

To Legeon: haha. you're right. Even in the whole interview she doesn't speaks about how free she is. (Finally)

  5. To Sorcha and Legeon:
Hi, guys, good to see you.
Actually, I decided last week that I will not read these "interviews" - it is way too big waste of time.
But reading comments is completely different - some guys use to write interesting things, so I just came to check them. It is good to read, actually, that she finally let Tuomas Holopainen and Nightwish be and start to live her own life, too. Well, it was about time. (I actually stopped to believe she could do that, ever.)
So, let us congratule her to her first interview without mentioning how she was at mercy of T.H., or enslaved by Nightwish or something like that.
Let me know, please, if the albut would be "listenable".
    Thanks in advance.

  6. and i really hope, that the new album will be much better than the previous one, so she could start singing her own songs and stops making more and more NW covers :)

  7. @ mermaid

As i said to the other interview with Tarja, they answer to what they are being asked. And journalists keep asking them the same questions.
Do you want to remind you how many years journalists have been asking Tuomas about Tarja?Even until today.
Tarja has let NW be.What she says about being free and enjoying that she composes what she wants now is what they ask her.
