CHARON: New album tetatively due fall 2009

JP talks about Charon and new songs in the latest 3/2009 issue of Finnish music magazine Soundi. Scans and translation are from Afrodite (TarjaTurunen forum).

"Charon finding its edge

It will soon be four years since Charon released its fourth album, Songs for the Sinners. The almost perfect album took its toll with interests.
- We began to compose soon after the album came out. Well, we ended up completely repeating ourselves which didn't feel sensible. Harmaja came at a good point in time since it has allowed the upstairs to get some air, says J-P Leppäluoto, Charon's composer and singer and the leader of the Finnish band Harmaja.
Charon's schedule has been decided.
- We'll start recording during the spring so the album will come out in the fall. That is if everything goes well. We'll be in a rush!
- We have a lot of drafts and some things we're quite fond of. We're finding the right edge. We've consciously broken the pattern and there aren't many songs under four minutes. More of the "song inside a song"-idea. I've noticed with Harmaja that a song doesn't need an underlined chorus.
What about lyrics?
- With them I've mostly wondered how to sing about the same old things in a new way. Reaching 35 years I can't really naturally write about licking someone's body anymore, J-P laughs. "
