During 2009, Tarja has performed only three times in Finland: at Rockperry festival in Vaasa, at SOI Suvessa classical music festival in Mäntyharju and with the Tampere Philarmonic Orchestra.
The upcoming shows will mark the last time Tarja will play Finland before the release of her second album, "What Lies Beneath", in 2010.
The dates are as follows:
Dec. 04 - Lahti, Sibelius Hall
Dec. 05 - Tampere, Kaleva Church
Dec. 10 - Lappeenranta, The Church of Maria
Dec. 12 - Joensuu, The Church of Joensuu
Dec. 13 - Haapajärvi, The Churh of Haapajärvi
Dec. 18 - Seinäjoki, The Church of Lakeuden risti
About the artists:
Concert organist Kalevi Kiviniemi (b. 1958) is one of the internationally most active Finnish instrumental musicians. He has performed in most European countries, Russia, Japan, the Philippines, Australia and the United States as a concert and recording artist. He has served as a jury member in many international organ competitions and given masterclasses. Kalevi Kiviniemi was the Artistic Director of the Lahti Organ Festival for ten years between 1991 and 2001. As a recording artist, Kalevi Kiviniemi's recordings exceed a hundred records. The recording venues have included important organs in Finland as well as historical instruments in the USA, Japan, the Philippines, France, Switzerland, Italy, and Germany. Kalevi Kiviniemi has also received several awards in recognition of his remarkable work in the field of organ culture.
Marzi Nyman is a Finnish guitarist, who has become famous due to several TV shows in Finland. He has played with numerous groups; for example as a bandmate of Lenni-Kalle Taipale, Iiro Rantala new trio, UMO JAZZ ORCHESTRA and NYLON BEAT.
As a percussion artist of Lahti Symphony Orchestra, Markku Krohn has become a well-known classical musician in Finland. He has studied music for example in the Graz International Bilingual School. After 20 years in Finnish music scene Markku gave his best performances with the Tapiola Sinfonietta at the beginning of the '90s and at the Spanish Nights of Granada in Alhambra palace in 1998.

Nice! How I'd love to attend one of these!

I love Tarja!

Swedish television broadcasted the Gala concert that Tarja took part in last night (Saturday). She sang The Reign and some Finnish song that I didn't recognise. She was amazing, and her voice was great. To think that NW let her go to replace her with Anette, who is a good singer, but not dramatic and epic which is needed for NW songs.
I've always had the feeling that Marco disliked Tarja the most (remember the "SOF" comment from End of an Era?), and that he is the one who likes Anette the best, and another comment here on MFF makes me think I'm not mistaken.
Remember that the presenter on Suomi Safari said that Anette lives with a Finnish guy*, and people thought it was Jukka or Wilska. What if it's not? This wouldn't bother me at all, you fall in love with who you want to fall in love with, but it will cause huge problems if Tuomas finally realises that NW needs a woman vocalist and not a girly one.
* Only we who were there heard him say it, as the presenter is not in the videos with Anette.

What is the "SOF" comment from Marco? I'm just wondering.

@James.
In the documentary, Tarja says to the guys she needs to go find a mirror to check her teeth because she thinks she has something there (like, you know, spinach or something :) and Marco comments something like "it's probably SOF" (strip of foreskin) which I think is a very unclassy thing to say. To Emppu's credit he doesn't laugh that much, but the others do. I don't think Tarja heard Marco say it.
Oh, and I don't speak Finnish, so maybe the translator was just having fun, or I remember things the wrong way. But if I do remember correctly, I thought it was a disgusting thing to say to your colleague.

@ Itneverstops: I'm also wondering what SOF means..
I want to attend one of these! Unfortunately I'm not living in Finland so that wouldn't happen..

Thank you very much for the links! the videos are great and she sounds wonderful and dramatic.
Longing for her concert in september :)

It was Emppu who said the SOF-joke. Marco just laughed at it.

It was Jukka who said the SOF-joke.
snowman wrote on 31.08.2009 at 13:07
The SOF joke isn't very funny. Anyway, I hope Tarja's next album is a whole lot more interesting than that last one.
Jon wrote on 01.09.2009 at 05:28
She looks so bored on the poster, shame.
A Christmas tour? Will she sing jingle bells?
Regarding the SOW joke I found it pretty rude myself but hey what do you think you get when you put 5 guys in a trailer on tour for some time. They drink and make dirty jokes, I am sure Tarja was not too prude to be offended by that, she must have developed a thick skin touring with the guys for so many years. Not reacting like she did is probably the best reaction anyway.
Empathica wrote on 01.09.2009 at 06:23
@ Empathica
She has a Christmas Album, surely she will sing songs from that album and some other clasical Chritsmas songs from Finland...
haatidje wrote on 01.09.2009 at 15:59
Man, I attended one of her Xmas gig last year, cause my girlfriend brought me there with her. I'm a metalhead and do not like all that classical thingies. But I even enjoyed that gig, cause she was very warm with the audience and was very simple. ))) So my respects.

Empathica: I'm sure that Tarja can tell the difference between jokes in good humour and those in evil spirit very well ...
Almagest wrote on 15.09.2009 at 19:23
I mean nasty, mean-spirited jokes ... like we do them here :-p The guys certainly did some mean-spirited jokes about her, usually behind her back, like on EoaE. I'm sure she knows exactly how the jokes are meant, and registers them even if she shows no reaction.
