TARJA TURUNEN Continuing To Write Material For New Solo Album
15.09.2009
Former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen has has recorded three songs for a Finnish Christmas album, produced by Olli Ahvenlahti. According to Turunen, this is "a charity project for missionary workers in Finland and it is going to be released in the beginning of November in Finland."
In other news, Tarja has been busy writing new songs for her new solo album with Johnny Andrews. She says, "We wrote a song few months ago when I was in L.A. and now we did it again in Finland."
She continues, "The biggest difference with 'My Winter Storm' [Tarja's first solo album] probably is that at that time, we recorded all the songs that I was happy with. And we had no leftovers! Everything went into the album, one way of another. But now, the feeling is a bit different. Having so much material to choose from is making things difficult… Is a new and nice challenge. Is quite hard to leave songs out of the album as all the songs have a special meaning to me."
Turunen has announced the lineup of her band for the "Final Storm Tour 2009", which is scheduled to kick off on September 19 at the Elf Fantasy Fair in Arcen, Netherlands. It is as follows:
* Tarja Turunen - Voice
* Mike Terrana (MASTERPLAN, SAVAGE CIRCUS, RAGE, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) - Drums
* Christian Kretschmar (SCHILLER) - Keyboards
* Oliver Holzwarth (BLIND GUARDIAN, SIEGES EVEN) - Bass
* Alex Scholpp (FARMER BOYS) - Guitar
* Max Lilja (HEVEIN, APOCALYPTICA) - Cello

Video footage of Tarja Turunenperforming at the Baltic Sea Festival in Sweden on August 28, 2009 can be viewed below.
Tarja Turunen has set "What Lies Beneath" as the working title of her new solo CD, tentatively due in early 2010. She says, "With [2007's] 'My Winter Storm', I chose the name of the album in the early stages and that helped me to create the concept for the album. With the new album, I decided to do it the same way, so I searched for an inspiring title and all the songs are one way or another related to it."

I would like to hear those Christmas songs, cause her voice is good for them. I like her Christmas album!

oh nooo!! my favorite song !!!!!!!!!
I don't know what happened backstage but Tarja was dying to burst into laughter all along...... look at 4:15, quite obvious to me !! she's like : " WTF!?!" entering on stage at the beginning (0:34 exactly, it's like she saw something disgusting up there) and this poor contorsionist probably didn't help. At the end she's lookin at her with a strange face too.. and had this impish smile just at the end of the song........ ahaha ! awesome presence tough! Tarja has remained such a mischievous little girl !!!
TT wrote on 15.09.2009 at 14:33
watching again, I understand better now her strange face, people in the audience are almost all zombies, she was probably dying to throw, as usual, tons of wicked devil horns in their faces to kick their dying ass...... that kind of NDE makes you miss so much your old metal audience you know.....
TT wrote on 15.09.2009 at 14:53
@TT what happened to that "Silence is golden"? :-p

Crucified: You could have simply linked to http://www.johnnyandrews.com/page2.html - it says the same as the Wikipedia article.
I wish she'd change to Roadrunner, though, collaborate with people like Steve Wilson (Porcupine Tree) as producers and prog our asses off. :-p

What Lies Beneath it's going to be a great album... I can feel it. The titles of her new songs are so great, I mean: Love To Hate, Witch-Hunt, In For A Kill... that's what I call good titles!!:-)
Who? wrote on 15.09.2009 at 18:36
@Who?
Yes,very good titles indeed...And certainly NOT whinny, like some band we know...
BUT if you think of it,her new album will be very interesting in it's meaning...
If you think that the album is called "What Lies Beneath" and that one of the songs is "In For A Kill" :)
Legeon wrote on 15.09.2009 at 19:17
I think Tarja said she wants to get In Flames producer to produce her new album. She should be more down-to-earth and more "rocky" and hire Anders Bagge, Celine Dion's and Madonna's producer. :-p
TheSeer wrote on 15.09.2009 at 19:44
Seer, silence is golden above all for MermaidLegeon, the others can speak freely as they are able to moderate themselves.
TT wrote on 15.09.2009 at 20:28
...I forgot Almagest that likes to discourse with himself and spread his science all over MFF...
TT wrote on 15.09.2009 at 20:38
Is this a joke? Sounds like my ma singing while doing the dishes.
And the size of tarjas head´s getting bigger every year not to mention her forehead. With a little workout at the gym, viola! A femaile Arnold Schwarzenegger. Spitting image. God her voice is so annoying. Sorry I had to hear and see this. Spoiled a otherwise nice evening.

@Wrathchild: you should take Tarja's song "I walk alone" as your personal anthem. And don't you find interesting this blending of musical genres we're witnessing. Namely, metal singer Anette Olzon engages pop producer in order to make a "rocky" album, while classical singer Tarja Turunen engages metal producer in order to make a pop album. Fascinating, isn't it?
TheSeer wrote on 15.09.2009 at 22:07
@ Wrathchild
I can check that you continue saying stupid things about Tarja. Ok, good for you, but next time you tell someone something about "bad" (but true) things concerning Anette let's see...
While you say stupidities about Tarja we say truths as bigger as a cathedral.... So you want opened war again...
And after this I have to read how all the fault goes to mermaid and Legeon....
haatidje wrote on 15.09.2009 at 22:08

Hello wrathchild, nice to see you here again.
And i'm so glad tarja destroyed your evening...
Because in a month,i'm going to pay to be destroyed...And enjoy it actually.
Legeon wrote on 15.09.2009 at 23:19
I like the titles too, and the lyrics Tarja is writing, but I just yearn to finally hear a new fast, powerful, bombastic song with her voice again - a METAL song as she announced (and please not poser metal in the vein of DPP or in the way Slipknot claim they're doing death metal). It's the uncertainty of not knowing the direction that she is venturing into musically that keeps bothering me. Sure, people like Andrews may be good musicians too, but if you want to send the signal that you're going full power and no compromises you'd associate with other names and socialise with other people ...
I think she should take the 30 songs written so far and see if the number can't be reduced by working ideas from certain songs into other songs to make them musically richer.
TT obviously has no idea about science, because if I'd start with that, your heads would start spinning. :-p
Almagest wrote on 16.09.2009 at 01:54
Guys, seriously: why you still replying Wrathchild's comments? is too obvious that she only wants to get some attention... I'm sure that user is Nettie Olzon, who bashes Tarja because she can't face the fact that nobody likes her...
Whatever... we (Tarjaholics) will always be majority here... :-)
TT: that picture of "the granny" was ... terrifying...
Who? wrote on 16.09.2009 at 03:50
Almagest, you have a point. I also have no idea about the directions she will take. Still I like some titles of the songs like "Witch-hunt". You know, in past some poor women were accused by some men to be witches, though they were not, were blamed for things they never actually did and were unjustly persecuted for that :)) Interesting!
Who?, well, that troll you are talking about is actually claims to be a male of some sort, but it could possible be "she". Still "he" is attracted to Legeon a lot and just wants to win her heart and attention.
If it is Olzon, I hope she won't write more whinny poems here about herself to feel that she is adored and loved by whole white world :)) By the way, last evening I had a nice chat with some of her fans, this fan has been a total fan boy of her and always fighted with me cause I wasn't worshipping his Nettie. And you know yesterday he confessed that he lost all affections for Nettie cause she disappointed him completely with her bad attitude (blog and etc.)
You know, not all of us are tarjaholics here, some only like her or some just do not like the current NW, but you are right about one thing - thanks God this place isn't crawling with Maestro-Princess?s fan boys-fan girls who are just drooling over them.
Lyset wrote on 16.09.2009 at 10:23

Yes, you are right! if he/she destroys his/her evening watching this, he/she is not very intelligent anyway... I don't like pop, so I don't listen pop, she doesn't like Tarja but "destroys" the evenings watching her... Poor he/she....

Change "past" with "present" and "witches" with "divas" and it will still be true. :-p

I think the same. When I first read the title "Witch-Hunt" I thought: "This song must be about the huge amount of bullshit that a certain coward throw at her..."
Let's see if we are right, after the halloween concert, the secret will be unveiled...

The seer. "I walk alone" Why do all Nightwish singers use SWEDISH composers? I believe I´ve got the answer. They want the best.
Wrathchild wrote on 18.09.2009 at 19:54

Poor Tuomas, both NW singers used him,but he is Finnish and they understood he is not the best and decided to switch to Swedish composers, lol

Legeon: An Aphrodite for metalheads? Born from the sea? (The Persian word for the sea happens to be "darya", not sure if I've mentioned that one yet.) Where Dionysos meets Apollo down with the sin? (Classical music is in Apollo's domain, heavy metal in Dionysos'. Folk music would probably be in Pan's.) I love the dress, too. The new one she wore at EFF, too. :-)
Almagest wrote on 21.09.2009 at 22:52
I had to think of the same when I heard about "Witch Hunt", TheSeer. Though I think Tarja has been called a word that rhymes with "witch" more often than "witch" itself. :-p But then, we two always read things like that into lyrics, don't we? :-)

I don't think it's about Tuomas. I think she's been influenced by heavy metal from the 80ies (Doro for example) where bunch of songs had the word "witch" in the tittle. ;-)

TheSeer: The allusions were to Passion and the Opera, Oceanborn and Lost Northern Star respectively, duh. I'm appalled that you've missed those. :-p
Speaking of 80s "witch" metal:
The streets are empty, all men are hidden home
I wonder why, what's going on here?
Someone shouts "stop boy" don't move on that way.
Tonight they're hunting for someone, for someone just like you.
(Chorus:)
I see fire, fire in the night
Symbols are burning so bright
It's the sign, the sign of women's fight
All men are so frightened
Thousand wild witches are srceaming through the night
They are thrilling with their magic, tragic is the daughter's fight
Pointing at me with their fingers, saying "you are the sin"
"Let's take him to our mountain to purify his soul"
(Chorus)
They bind me to a pole, naked they are beating with whips
They torture to inquire, hate is on their lips
Suddenly, the queen of the witches shouts "he is mine"
Naked she comes to violate me, there is no harder love in town
(Chorus)
:-)

You mentioned Aphrodite being born from the sea and that reminded me on Therion song birth of Venus Ilegitima:
"Aphrodite is rising from the shell.
A newly born to be see to expel from from the paradise..."
However I DID recognize Lost Northern Star! ;-)
