A track-by-track review/description of "The Days Of Grays" can be found on Terrorizer.com.
SONATA ARCTICA keyboardist Henrik "Lance" Klingenberg previously described the band's new material as "a bit darker and maybe not so complex as 'Unia'. Nevertheless, it's definitely not a back-to-the-roots album with fast power metal. All the trademark SONATA stuff is on there, solos, lots of singing some slower songs."
The new SONATA ARCTICA video, "Flag In The Ground", can be viewed below.

Nice! Congrats for SA ^^. Hope for them that Unia will reach Platinum status soon.
OT. Those Finish charts are great. They feature much better bands than the charts do in my country (Netherlands)
Sorcha wrote on 24.09.2009 at 15:52
same as Strato.
Though SA has way more gold discs.
(Yet I think Strato would deserve even more of them than SA already has yet their records are old so they are judged by the old standards)

Haha, well Sorcha I come from the UK where the charts are full of absolute bullshit, like Lady GaGa and Girls Aloud and all that other ear rape. There is never any metal in our charts, most people in UK think Muse is metal. The Netherlands has some decent metal tho rite...or does it not make it into the charts there?
Congratulations to Sonata Arctica...Days of Grays really nailed what they were wanting to do with Unia. Many more great albums to be had from these boys I feel.

@ Jon: Altough we have some awesome metal bands here, metal is for radio and tv a lot like a curse word. You'll hear/sea Within Temptation and delain (since Delain had a hit here) rarely on the radio and the tv. You'll here absolutelly NOTHING about all the other metal bands. Only if you know where to search.
So they also don't reach the charts. Just like in the UK, the charts here are filled with Lafy GaGa and R&B artist. And ofcourse those latest Disney "stars". But that's about it. If metalbands reach the charts, they are already out of it before you even noticed they where there.
And again congrats for SA. May there be a lot of Gold and Platinum records for them in the future.

This CD is so....ridiculous....It's very hard to believe this is Sonata with the exception of like 2 songs....Guess we will never hear the good ole Sonata Pre-Unia

@ Sorcha - and here I was looking with misty eyes towards countries like Netherlands, when it's really just the same as us! Even if we have My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost and Anathema... Finland seems by far the most embracing country of Metal that I can think of, unless someone can tell me what the radio stations in Sweden are like (I would like to think people there can listen to Bloodbath and Dismember on the way to work in the car >:D)
@Giorgio - I have to admit I sometimes crave for the classic days of SA, but you have to admire them for creating an album that is so different yet so undoubtedly them. I'm sure they'd rather do that than release Winterheart's Guild again every two years, even if it is awesome. I didn't really get into Unia as much as the old stuff but I think this album will endure as the years go by.
Jon wrote on 25.09.2009 at 09:12
The album is painfully average. Much better stuff, is coming from other finnish bands these days.
DeadAndGone wrote on 25.09.2009 at 13:03
@DeadandGone thats how it has always been.
Right now Excalion, Stratovarius, Olympos Mons, Kiuas and a full dozen of other great Finnish bands are making greater stuff than ever that most of the times beating the old and new Sonata with a stick.
Yet Sonata is a great band. Someone just always has to be the least good.
Santeri wrote on 25.09.2009 at 14:52
the album is SA style, but at the same time is something new for me. I like it a lot! My favorite sound these days *happy, happy, happy*
stanislava wrote on 25.09.2009 at 16:04
@Santeri - actually I agree with you. For me, there is nothing wrong with the new SA, and the Days isn't a bad purchase really, and it is a marked step up from Unia, but you are right that Finland produces a shitload of better music. And always has...I recently heard 'Desert By Night' by Sentenced for the first time the other day...incredible.

Little bit more about finish charts. Among most selling records this week were:
2. Sonata Arctica (new)
7. Megadeth (new)
8. Viikate (best position: 1)
9. Ensiferum (new)
11. Porcupine Tree (new)
Not so ordinary to compare some other countries.
Frame wrote on 26.09.2009 at 12:47
Well, Sonata's music has always been easy to listen to, with really infectious melodies, so I don't really see the point comparing them with those other bands. I always thought of their music as totally radio friendly, for 80s standards at least.
