NIGHTWISH Record New Song In Finnish Honoring Jaakko Teppo

Finnish symphonic power metallers NIGHTWISH have issued the following update:

"Nightwish is showing respect for Finnish singer/songwriter veteran Jaakko Teppo by recording his song 'Hilma Ja Onni' in Finnish. Jaakko Teppo is well known in Finland of his humorous protest songs associated with the labor movement. 15 years ago a serious illness forced Jaakko Teppo to withdraw from the stages. Today many of the brightest stars in Finland are honoring Jaakko Teppo’s legacy for Finnish music culture by recording his songs on tribute album Pörsänmäen Sanomat. Nightwish's rendition of 'Hilma Ja Onni' is available on iTunes and CDON.COM and the album Pörsänmäen Sanomat – Tribuutti Jaakko Tepolle can be ordered through www.fanzone/jaakkoteppo. The profit of the sales is directed to Jaakko Teppo. Thank you for your support!"

  5. @TheSeer

    Who is singing???

Marco. The Talentless Princess is too busy writing songs about: PMS, Prada, Her New Hair, her new pants, or who knows what for her new crappy solo album.

  6. If Snowman is right and Marco is singing it, I can only hope that they are also providing it through the Nokia store.

If you think about it.. Marco should be the one who sings it, since they want to honor him. If the wanted to make him look stupid and want to insult that guy, they should let it screamed.

But anyway... If Marco sings it, I'm really looking forward to be able to listen to it! But if there is any form of screaming in it, I think that they should apologize to mister Teppo for completely ruining his awesome song.

  7. The song is listed as:

NIGHTWISH feat. PEKKA KUUSISTO: Hilma ja Onni

So I looked Pekka Kuusisto up and here's what I found:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pekka_Kuusisto

So the song has violin melodies in it ^^

And I found this info in the Official Nightwish Forum (Thanks, google!). Posted by Niko:

Hilma ja Onni is a Finnish Jaakko Teppo cover song played by Nightwish featuring Mr. Pekka Kuusisto on violin. Marco sings. Anette didn't participate in this project.

The Finnish lyrics are here. I translated them to English for you. Thank you, Louhetar, for helping me with the translation. If there are still some mistakes in the translation, they are my fault, not Louhetar's.

    Hilma and Onni

    On the shore of Likolahti
    with Hilma Holkki
    we always dreamed
    about mutual love

    I held Hilma?s hand
Then we went to the storehouse rapidly
    We placed our false teeth
    to the same glass overnight

Until Hilma was taken from me by Onni
Laukkanen, a bull with a tie
I don?t hear the splatter of your broken boots
    anymore in the cowhouse

Hilma?s teeth are no longer in the glass
I?ve sold hens, pigs and sheep
I had to accustom my cows to a milking machine
Now I?m going to the cowhouse
The switch of the milking machine is broken
Oh, Hilma, why I?ll never get you back

Why Hilma was taken from me by Onni
Laukkanen, a bull with a tie
I don?t hear the splatter of your broken boots
    anymore in the cowhouse

    Now you use nail polish
You lock the door of your storehouse
    and go to bed with
    Onni Laukkanen

Your boots are leaning against the stairs of the storehouse
I'm digging a dike in pain
    Laukkanen and autumn come
    But I don?t

Because Hilma was taken from me by Onni
Laukkanen, a bull with a tie
I don?t hear the splatter of your broken boots
    anymore in the cowhouse

Hilma, did you leave me because
I never wanted to be your assistant
when you shovelled ordure through the hatch
    to the manure storage

    Now I regret it all
when Hilma is pregnant to Onni
    and after two weeks
    they are getting married

I?m going to go to the wedding as a drunken gatecrasher
I?ll revenge to Hilma by farting in her wedding
Because I don?t hear the splatter of your broken boots
    anymore in the cowhouse

Alone, on the roof of the root cellar
This is the way I remember you

  9. This song shows truth- Marco can perfectly be lead singer of NW, without any Olzon around. Nice song, not very interesting, but nice.

  10. Looking forward to this. MARCO IS THE MAN!

  11. If Fartwish makes a song related to you, then it's not an honor: it's an insult... XD

  12. Marco, please, become the lead singer of NW, you are 100 times better than Princess Screamer!

Why do you put down Anette? Seriously, this hating Anette needs to end. It's old and patheic that people still do this. Really get a life.

It is really funny, old and pathetic that some people tell other people to get a life, while just can't (or deny to) accept the reality :)

  15. @Stephanie

Still NO argument huh? After all these conversations, all these things we have discussed and said, people like you still find it hard to come up with something more complex and intellectual than: get a life.

  17. Manxita: Well, that just confirms what I have been feeling all along ... Nightwish is now effectively Tuomas's project fronted by Marco, and Anette is just a glorified guest vocalist there to please the crowds who demand a female singer. But all the "serious" stuff, everything that is conceivably done with personal, emotional involvement, is done without her participation. Her role in the band is no greater than that of the former-vocalist-who-may-not-be-named, and her importance for the music is even smaller: effectively zero. Perhaps that is the real message? Female vocals are just generally irrelevant to the core of Nightwish's music, so it doesn't matter who sings, and how badly?
