DORO PESCH Performs With TARJA TURUNEN At METAL FEMALE VOICES FEST; Video Available
25.10.2009
German metal queen Doro Pesch joined former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen on stage at the Metal Female Voices Fest on October 19, 2009 in Wieze, Belgium to perform the song "The Seer". Watch video footage of Doro's appearance below.
Tarja's version of "The Seer", featuring a duet with Pesch, was included on the "extended special edition" double-CD re-release of Tarja's "My Winter Storm" album, which came out in January. This set was packed with 32 tracks, including the CD "My Winter Storm" with the addition of the song "The Seer" in its original version. The bonus disc presented several new tracks, remixes and live recordings, among them the brand new song "Enough" and "The Seer", featuring Pesch. Both tracks were mixed at Resonate Recording Studios by Toby Wright (SLAYER, KORN, KISS, ALICE IN CHAINS). Also included was the previously unreleased track "Wisdom Of Wind", composed by Jeff Rona and Lisa Gerrard and featuring the Beijing Philharmonic with Qingdao Symphony Orchestra recorded in China. The two-CD set was made available as a digipack deluxe edition including an exclusive poster, new album cover and enhanced booklet containing new photos.

Wow, Doro is the Queen of Metal and superb metal vocalist, it is great that she performed with Tarja!
Corey wrote on 25.10.2009 at 22:05
Whoa! Awesome =D
Did anyone else notice that Tarja no longer has the dominating presence on stage she had with Nightwish? She's more...accessible, for lack of a better word...

Too much beauty on that stage!
x)
I love that song... I was lucky enough to grab one of those My Winter Storm Special Edition recently, during a short trip to Buenos Aires (to see Stratovarius), since I couldn't find it in my town.
@ Max
I think that's because she no longer has to play the beauty "ice queen", the counterpart to the beast, she can just take over the whole stage and be herself without holding back, which she seems way more comfortable doing than when she was in Nightwish. Maybe it's the fact that she feels more secure as an artist, but I once read somewhere Marcelo explaining that Tarja was never as cold as she looked on stage with Nightwish, she just played that role to complement the lyrics and image of the band, and create a more striking contrast with Marco, who was usually the one to have more interaction with the audience.
Blackwood wrote on 26.10.2009 at 00:30
I agree with Max there. When Tarja was with Nightwish, your eyes were fixated on this 'majestical princess' gracefully gliding about on the stage for the most part. Her stage presence was mezmorising, I saw her Solo last week and her stage presence was rather lacking..
Charlotte wrote on 26.10.2009 at 00:45
I love both Tarja and Doro. Seeing them perform together is just awesome!

Tarja!!!! Tarja!!!! Tarja!!!! Tarja!!!! Tarja!!!!
Ragnarök wrote on 26.10.2009 at 03:59
she makes the show and has still a great presence and charisma, Tarja's music is more intimate though, less epic and spectacular, while Nw has lost the intensity, grace and majesty of Tarja, they both have lost some depth and originality, some kind of radiance...
TT wrote on 26.10.2009 at 04:54
At the risk of starting another comment fight, I'd like to say this:
I think it's pretty interesting how both Tarja and NW have said that they feel liberated by the split. Tarja has said that she is glad that she no longer has to play the "ice" queen, and NW no longer has to build their songs around the Beauty and Beast concept.
If the whole ordeal hadn't been so ugly, I might actually say that Tarja's departure could have been good for everyone involved.
Blaze wrote on 26.10.2009 at 05:39
Max:
I saw Tarja live more than once, and her stage presence was 1.000.000 times more impressing than ever before. She runs through the stage, dances, makes headbaning, and the most important thing: her voice sounds like a thunder. She still being elegant, so I really don't know what you're talking about. You can't base your opinion of her stage presence on this performance, because it's a duet, and she's not using her full vocal skills.
Plus: many years have passed since she was in Nightwish, so is obvious that now she feels more confident on stage, therefore she can play with the audience and give a great performance at the same time.
Ps: Tarja and Doro look cute together on stage... XD

Kokko wrote on 26.10.2009 at 10:23
Boys, really...
she is 32 or something... naturally she is more self confident on stage then she was 7 years ago.
When she will be 40 she will be even more confident on stage and in her life.
Age and experiences matter, you know?

yes, Seer, I am.
with every another year of age I tend to be more and more self confident then I was when child.
You do not? you are still where you were when 7?

An interesting note: a documentary called "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey," there is a section that talks about the evolution of women in metal from just groupies in the early 80s to full out bands in the late 80s and their breakthrough into mainstream in the 90s. A picture of Tarja is shown in this section. It's only for a second, but when I saw it I thought, "YES! THIS GUY KNOWS TARJA!" Pretty awesome moment.
Jeremy wrote on 27.10.2009 at 00:01
Yeah, it was a pic with red coat, and black hair. From her NW days.
I think the groupies chapter, and the one about women in metal, are separate.
DeadAndGone wrote on 27.10.2009 at 01:11
@Max
Well, I still find her stage presence very strong and charismatic, but she indeed does a lot of things on her own now, as solo singer she is a main focus of attention, and thus she is more accessible :) Hope it makes sense.
@Blaze
Honestly, the loss of that NW's Beauty and Beast concept is far worse and sad than not playing "ice queen" anymore :).

MFF Staff: Good morning mermaid :)

Hi, Tero,
good to see you.. now it is OK, we are chating with Lizzie already.
We started quite a good topic yesterday - kissing technique.
Why are you wanting to move the Forum??
Did you get bored in here, alone, without us, as I have predicted?..
and you want us back?
MFF Staff: No I didn't mean that :) There has been plenty of problems in the forum and it has made me question the forum a bit. I am not going to remove the forum but I am perhaps moving it to another location and another address at some point.

I noticed Anette is watching all kind of stupid TV shows. I've never heard (read) her talking about some documentary she saw last night or is going to watch. Only "wannabe" TV shows. (Sorry if some of you are watching this kind of show, this is only my opinion about them).
Kiri wrote on 28.10.2009 at 16:12
Doro and Tarja look wonderful together! :) Those are real ladys! Real profs!
@Kiri
I agree with you, it is seen that she likes a lot this kind of stupid TV shows - she does not watch them from time to time or rarely- but she is almost a fan of them. That's too much.
And sure, some lady crushing cans with her breasts is SO much more important than working on her "solo album" or pretending to work on it as it is mainly those two others guys who work on this album as I understand :)
Simone wrote on 28.10.2009 at 20:39

Well, now we know Anette's secret dream - to crush cans with her small breasts :) Go Anette, fulfil your dream, PMS Princess!

Just think that:Bruce Dickinson once said that realities and all those kind of TV shows are the most ridiculous thing in the world.
He has also said that the most important about being in a band is to be as good as their crowd and to be able to deliver expectation...
Now,imagine what he would think of Anette :P

Hello, Tero,
ready for your vacation? Are you going to do some sport... or just have a good relaxed time by TV?
Do not mind Seer, BTW.:-P
He wakes up for a few minutes lately... and then he does talk nonsense.
MFF Staff: No I don't mind...as long as the conversations are kept in their own sections in the forum I am ok by it.
As for my vacation...I will spend it with my wife away from Finland...well it's a joined vacation / honeymoon. And tv is not included really...but of course some sort of sport IS included :)

Are you going to her home place (was it Argentina?)
or no Latin America at all, but something new for you both..??!
Well, congratulations again... and let God bless you with many babies to come... ! :-))

Elita CC: Tarja's band has an unstable line-up. Most of the members have other projects going on, so they don't always have time, and Tarja's goal is to have at least two musicians for every instrument in the band so that there is always a replacement option. Don't worry, Maria is still Tarja's keyboardist, so you can expect her to return, and that means a BIG incentive for Kiko to return, too. :-p
Almagest wrote on 01.11.2009 at 00:29
By the way, what is it about the attraction Finns have with Brazilians and Argentinians? Not only Tarja and Maria, Tero's wife is Brazilian too, and so is Tommi's girlfriend I've heard (Tommi, Tarja's bald roadie), same for Timo Kaarkoski's girlfriend, a guitarist now living in Brazil (his MySpace handle is "kaarkoskitimo") ...
