TARJA TURUNEN: Three New Finnish Christmas Songs Posted Online

Three songs sang by Tarja Turunen for a Finnish Christmas album, produced by Olli Ahvenlahti, "Maailman Kauneimmat Joululaulut" ("The World's Most Beautiful Christmas Songs") can be heard here.

According to Turunen, this is "a charity project for missionary workers in Finland.

Tarja Turunen has set "What Lies Beneath" as the working title of her new solo CD, tentatively due in early 2010. She says, "With [2007's] 'My Winter Storm', I chose the name of the album in the early stages and that helped me to create the concept for the album. With the new album, I decided to do it the same way, so I searched for an inspiring title and all the songs are one way or another related to it."

  1. I'm just listening to Heinillä Härkien (what does that mean? :D). It doesn't blow me away completely (maybe it's still to early for Christmas songs :D) , but I enjoy listening to it =) I also like the ending, because she sings higher there.

    Thank you =)

  5. Heinillä härkien is one of most loved christmas-songs here in Finland. It´s tells about baby -Jesus who sleeps in hays (heinä) at bulls(härkien) feeding trough (kaukalo) .

  6. All traditional carols are sweet but since they are sung always and everywhere before Christmas, they might seem not so special.:)

If you know folk-rock band, called Blackmore's Night, than you know they have entire album of singing traditional famous Christmas carols and it is quite nice though those carols were played like thousands times before and sung by lots of different singers before already ;)

I like these three songs, will download them and listen at Christmas Eve :)

  8. Unia, the same is true for many well-known classical pieces. Does that make them less special? :-p

  12. Mark: If you were trying to have a nag against Tarja here, you FAIL. Big time. Those songs are traditional Christmas songs and have nothing to do with country, obviously. But I suppose you are one of those "open-minded to all kinds of music" NW fans. ;-)

  13. Tarja rules, I liked her christmas album (Breath From Heaven)... but I hate christams... HAHAHA!!! I'd like her to make an album with classical arias instead of christmas lullabies. Anyway the songs are nice, just like everything she sings.

  14. Oh yeah, an aria album would definitely be intriguing.
