SONATA ARCTICA Singer's Vocal-Cord Infection Forces Concert Cancellations

Finnish melodic metallers SONATA ARCTICA have issued the following statement:

"Due to an infection of his vocal cords, singer Tony Kakko had to see a doctor in Budapest. The singer's infection has forced the band to cancel today's (November 18) show in Graz, as well as the show in Vienna (November 19) and Munich (November 20).

"SONATA ARCTICA deeply regret to disappoint their fans but will be back to these cities the soonest possible, exact dates will be announced shortly. Tickets already purchased will be still valid later on!

"We do hope the infection will be gone as soon as possible, so we can continue our tour in Pratteln at Z7 on November 22."

SONATA ARCTICA will embark on a North American headlining tour in the spring. Support will come from MUTINY WITHIN and POWERGLOVE. Tickets are on sale exclusively through EnterTheVault.com until December 3, at which point they will be made available through all normal ticketing systems.

"The Days Of Grays", the new album from SONATA ARCTICA, sold around 2,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD landed at position No. 19 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"The Days Of Grays" was released on September 22 in North America through Nuclear Blast Records.

  1. Oh good, vocal trouble sucks. Hope he gets well soon and they get back to the road.

  2. Maybe with this downtime for him he can write songs that don't suck.

I'll pay 25 bucks for a cd if it sounds like old SA...

New SA on the other hand can fade like a bad 80's band.

  3. Eee...yowch. Not even, like, strep or anything, a freaking vocal chord infection...that takes a while to fully recover from. I have to wonder how that happens, though. Your vocal chords are in your windpipe, so unless you inhale something, it's pretty hard to get an infection...well! Good luck to Tony!

  4. Yeah, vocal problems suck...

BTW, if you think that the new Sonata sucks in comparison to the old one, you really need to by a pair of new ears and become more pen minded. Fast double bass stuff with fast melodies is the word of yesterday, what we need is experimentation and depth, and SA gives us that.

  5. poor Tony!
although I must admit this rings strange in my head. I never before heard about a vocal chord infection, and I'm really curious about how one may actually contract it.
    Does anyone know?

  10. Vocal cord infection is serious. How you get it? Well, I got it by getting a sore throat, catching a cold, and going on stage with these, being a singer in a death metal band. That killed my vocal chords, and I was forbidden by the doctor even to utter single words....It sucks like hell I tell ya...

  11. Ohh I really hope Tony gets better soon. There´s nothing worst for a singer, I can tell you that.

A lot of hugs, Tony. You'll be back on stage soon =)
